ODEX is an excellent option when unconsolidated formations are too dense or cobbly for drilling. It is a down-hole air hammer system designed to advance casing during drilling. Once a desired depth is reached, the eccentric bit can be retrieved, leaving the casing in place for sampling or installations. A set of ODEX system includes a pilot bit, a reamer, and a guide device.

✔ Rapid removal of cuttings
✔ No use of drilling mud
✔ High penetration rate in resistant rock
✔ Easy soil and groundwater sampling
✔ Possible to measure yield estimates
✔ Advantageous in caving-prone formations
Application Range & Process
Suitable for water wells, geothermal wells, micropiles, and medium mini-type grouting holes for buildings, dams, and harbour projects.
Step 1: Reamer swings out to enlarge pilot-hole for casing slide.
Step 2: At depth, rotation reverses to swing reamer in for retrieval.
Step 3: Casing can be sealed with cement grout if left in hole.
Step 4: Continue to desired depth using conventional drilling.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the primary function of the ODEX system?
The ODEX system is designed to advance casing during drilling through unconsolidated or unstable formations, allowing the casing to stay in place while the bit is retrieved.
In what types of rock formations is the ODEX165 most effective?
It is versatile and performs exceptionally well in soft, middle, and hard rock formations, especially where there is a high risk of hole caving.
Do I need to use drilling mud with this system?
No, one of the key features of the ODEX system is that it does not require the use of drilling mud, making the process cleaner and more efficient.
What components are included in a standard ODEX set?
A complete ODEX system set typically includes a pilot bit, a reamer, and a guide device.
Can the casing be retrieved after drilling is complete?
The system allows the drill bit assembly to be pulled up through the casing. Depending on the project, the casing can either be left in the hole (sealed with grout) or potentially removed.
What are the common applications for ODEX drilling?
It is widely used for drilling water wells, geothermal wells, micropiles, and grouting holes for infrastructure projects like dams and harbours.
